5 Seconds of Summer is going to warm up. The Aussie pop-punk outfit prodded their first discharge in several years, “Need You Back,” which is booked to drop this Friday.

The band began the commencement with a basic web-based social networking post.

The 5SOS Fam got a tip off last Friday, when Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood hinted they were getting the band back together. The group posted a monochrome promo picture with the message, “Behind The Scenes 2018.” Another message carried the hashtag #5SOS3ISCOMING.

The Sydneysiders are on a hot streak. They became the first band — not vocal group — to see their first two full-length studio albums (5 Seconds of Summer in 2014 and Sounds Good Feels Good in 2015) debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Before that, the band issued the introductory EP She Looks So Perfect, which debuted and peaked at No. 2.

In an interview with Billboard last December, guitarist Clifford updated on 5SOS’ highly anticipated third studio album, the first tastes of which should arrive in the “really early” stages of 2018. “Our fans were pretty pissed off that we didn’t give them an update about releasing an album this year because towards the start of the year, we were pretty positive we’d have an album out by the end of [2017],” he said. “With timing, it just didn’t end up working, but we’re definitely gonna have the album out next year.”
